Today, architects and builders want glass facades, but without the additional heating and air-conditioning costs. As a result, they need solutions that take advantage of sunlight as an unlimited resource. An excellent example of this is the solar shading system on the inner courtyard side of the BMW Group SA building in Midrand, South Africa. The solution was planned by systems manufacturer RVI (Robertson Ventilation Industries) and designed by engineering firm ims (Ingenieurleistungen Manfred Starlinger). Vertical glass louvres cover a total area of around 500 m² and define the appearance of the façade. The LIMALine 150 drive system from elero controls the louvres according to the sunlight, ensuring the ideal amount of light and warmth without glare or excessive heat.
